Union Berlin wins in Kiel
Rothe scores and provides assist as Union Berlin defeats Holstein Kiel
Union Berlin earned a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Holstein Kiel in the 2. Bundesliga on Sunday, with Tymoteusz Puchacz and Sven Michel scoring the goals.
The visitors took the lead in the 20th minute when Puchacz fired home from close range after being set up by Christopher Trimmel. Michel then doubled the advantage just before half-time, heading in a cross from Andreas Voglsammer.
Kiel had their chances to get back into the game, but they were unable to find a way past Union goalkeeper Lennart Grill. The hosts also had a penalty appeal waved away in the second half.
The win sees Union Berlin move up to second place in the 2. Bundesliga, while Kiel remain in 10th place.
Individual brilliance from Puchacz and Michel
Tymoteusz Puchacz and Sven Michel were the standout performers for Union Berlin in their victory over Holstein Kiel.
Puchacz, a left-back, scored the opening goal and was a constant threat going forward. He also provided the assist for Michel's goal.
Michel, a striker, scored his eighth goal of the season with a well-taken header. He was a handful for the Kiel defense throughout the match.
