Los Angeles Chosen to Host 2028 Summer Olympics

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially awarded the hosting rights for the 2028 Summer Olympics to the city of Los Angeles, California, United States. The Games, officially known as the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad, will be the third time Los Angeles has hosted the Summer Olympics, having previously hosted the Games in 1932 and 1984.
The decision to award the Games to Los Angeles was made at the 131st IOC Session in Tokyo, Japan, on July 31, 2021. Los Angeles was the only city to bid for the 2028 Games after Budapest, Hungary, withdrew its bid in February 2021.
The 2028 Summer Olympics will be held from July 14 to August 30, 2028. The Games will feature a total of 28 sports and 339 events, with over 10,500 athletes competing from around the world.
Los Angeles is a major global city with a strong history of hosting major sporting events, including the 1932 and 1984 Summer Olympics, the 1994 FIFA World Cup, and the 2028 Super Bowl LVI. The city is also home to a number of world-class sports venues, including the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Staples Center, and the Rose Bowl.
