The UNs top court the International Court of Justice ICJ issued a ruling last week on Israels military offensive in Rafah.

The UN human rights chief has warned Israel not to launch a full military operation in Rafah describing the prospect as a grave violation of international law.

Dozens of people including children have been killed as extremely intense Israeli airstrikes and shelling pounded multiple locations in the area.

The UN human rights chief has called for an immediate ceasefire and an independent investigation into the killings.

Israel began a military offensive in and around the city of Rafah on 6 May 2024 as part of its invasion of the Gaza Strip during the Israel Hamas war.

Hundreds of people have been killed in the fighting and the death toll is expected to rise.
