Northern Lights Expected to Return to New England Skies
Aurora Borealis Visible Over Far Northern Latitudes
Midnight Peak Expected for Upper-Mid Latitudes
After a spectacular light show late Thursday night, New England skies are expected to once again be graced with the Northern Lights on Saturday night. Clouds will coat the sky by dawn, but the aurora borealis will become visible for far northern latitudes by late Thursday evening. The lights are predicted to peak in the upper-mid latitudes between midnight and 3 a.m.
This is a rare opportunity to see the Northern Lights over New England. The lights are caused by the interaction of charged particles from the sun with the Earth's atmosphere. The particles are drawn to the Earth's magnetic poles, which is why the aurora borealis is most commonly seen in high-latitude regions.
The aurora borealis is a beautiful and awe-inspiring sight. If you have the chance to see it, be sure to take advantage of it!
